Satisfying  Customer Needs

BACKGROUND: United Cogen at San Francisco Airport has had two IDP 3x10DA5 Boiler Feed Pumps operating since 1984. With the failure of one unit, they were faced with a decision to rebuild it, replace in kind or replace with another manufacturer’s pump. 

PROJECT: R. F. MacDonald Co., the local Goulds Pumps distributor, has serviced this facility for the last ten years.  We proposed a Goulds 3600, size 3 x 4 - 8B in 12% chrome to replace the existing carbon steel IDP pump.

United Cogen liked the 12% chrome offering over carbon steel since the pump was going into an existing piping system, where unstabilized feed water could attack a new steel casing.

The 12% chrome option offered the customer additional protection and was provided at a competitive price.  As a result of R. F. MacDonald Co.’s superior product offering and ongoing service relationship with United Cogen, we received the purchase order to install the new Goulds 3600 pump with the related baseplate, drive assembly, and field piping modifications. 

Responding quickly and with attention to the customers’ needs resulted in satisfied customer and a win for Goulds Pumps.
