Anaheim, CA PROJECT: Supply a new hydronic hot water plant for the new Disney hotel. SITUATION: A new hotel in an expanded theme park with major construction in all phases was progressing at an extremely rapid rate to meet a deadline. The boiler plant was on hold due to changes in the South Coast Air Quality Management District Best Available Control Technology requirements, which was potentially causing a delay to the construction of the hotel. The delays could become a severe impediment to the opening schedule of the new hotel. SOLUTION: R.F MacDonald Co. has provided a boiler package to keep Disney on schedule and meet not only the current SCAQMD requirements but also provide a guarantee lower than the 12 ppm NOx requirements. Disney’s Imagineering department has overseen the project R.F MacDonald Co. provided four Cleaver Brooks Model FLX watertube boilers with Alzeta Ultra Low NOx burners for the new hotel plant. The Model FLX boilers are of the bent tube, five pass flue gas design and are primarily used in hydronic heating applications and especially where thermal shock of other boiler types could be a concern. The Cleaver Brooks FLX boilers can easily handle large temperature variations and low flow conditions, which could damage other types of boilers. To assist in getting the project back on schedule, Cleaver Brooks expedited the manufacture of the boilers and shipped them to the job site without any of the new burners, allowing Disney to continue construction of the hotel and move forward with the project. After the boilers were set in place, R.F MacDonald Co.’s installation and service technicians installed the new Alzeta burners on the boilers at the job site. The burners were completely installed, wired, piped and started up well before the hotel was ready for operation. These units were placed into temporary service to assist the contractor in balancing the system. Today these boilers provide heat to the hotel for the thousands of visitors who will be visiting this exquisite addition to Disneyland. R.F MacDonald Co’s ability as a “one stop” supplier provided for the ability to complete this project in house. Our personnel have the ability to customize jobs to very stringent requirements, such as those at the Disney hotel, to meet the needs of all types of complicated jobs. |
