Pleasanton, CA
BACKGROUND: This project was the first retrofit of a Cleaver Brooks boiler utilizing a simplified internal flue gas recirculation system for NOx emissions control. Other systems involved external flue gas recirculation fans and excessive and complex controls and interlocks. Through a joint effort with R.F. MacDonald Co., Cleaver Brooks developed a simple yet one of the most effective low NOx emissions control system available. PROJECT: Retrofit two existing Cleaver
Brooks 350 HP firetube steam boilers to comply with Bay Area Air Quality
Management District (BAAQMD) Regulation 9 Rule 7 emissions requirements. REQUIREMENTS: Modify the existing
boilers to meet the BAAQMD retrofit NOx emissions requirement of 30 ppm.
R.F. MacDonald Co. modified the existing boilers to meet these requirements,
yet retained the features of the Cleaver-Brooks firetube boiler that has
made it the most widely used boiler in the world. These include the integral
wind box in the front door for cooling and combustion air preheat, single
piece hinged front door, readily removable burner drawer assembly for
quick inspection and adjustment, and rotary air damper for precise air
fuel ratio adjustment and control. These Cleaver Brooks boilers, upgraded by R.F MacDonald Co.’s field service technicians, are now providing Valley Care Medical Center with environmental compliance by the most simplified emissions control system available. |
