Agenda

Hosted by R.F. MacDonald Co.

Who should attend:
This seminar is designed for Facilities managers, Energy managers, Plant managers, Plant engineers, Boiler Room supervisors, or anyone in an energy or safety overseeing capacity.

Objective:
Overall objective of the seminar is to make the recipient much more knowledgeable of how steam and hot water systems operate and how they can be improved to positively impact cost of operation, return on assets, reliability and safety. The attendee will walk away with valuable information and ideas that can be immediately applied to improve his or her operation, maximizing the assets in the system while improving the safety of the operation.

Training Course Curriculum

Day 1
  • Overview of the most common boiler designs and their unique differences.
  • Thermodynamics & heat transfer; Understanding what is really going on inside the unit.
  • Understanding the basics of combustion.
  • How a burner is constructed to deliver optimum efficiency.
  • What is combustion efficiency and how can it be most effectively maximized.
  • Advances in burner technology.
  • How important is it that the burner be properly matched to the boiler.
  • How does turndown affect boiler operation.
  • Improving overall boiler efficiency and reliability.
  • Boiler controls and how they regulate the boiler's operation.

    • Components and operation
      • Piping/valving
      • Steam traps
      • Steam control valves and regulators
      • Condensate recovery
      • Boiler feed including deaeration
      • Pretreatment of boiler feed water
      • Boiler feed pumps and eliminating cavitation problems
    • Improving efficiency in the system
    • How to calculate payback
    • Do I capitalize or expense? Does leasing make sense?
    • Life cycle costing. Looking at the total picture.
    • Proper boiler maintenance and the importance of a boiler room log.
