After five years of quarterly boiler maintenance visits, Schussboom Brewery offers RFMCO the opportunity to collaborate on a special new brew

Schussboom Brewing Company is a restaurant and brewery with award winning craft beer, local praise for their artisanal pizza and a packed calendar of events.
VP and Brewmaster Jason Wagner has created over 200 craft beers since Schussboom opened in 2021. And R.F. MacDonald Co. has built a successful partnership with Schussboom by installing and maintaining their steam boiler, performing quarterly maintenance visits.
RFMCO is now being honored with a special collaboration brew called Party Fuel. A Beer Release Party will be held Thursday, July 3 to celebrate the launch.
Key Challenges
A major requirement from the customer was to add a low-pressure mode while the boiler was inactive. Running the boiler while not in use resulted in low steam and low energy efficiency. To address this, R.F. MacDonald Co. added a “nighttime setback” switch, lowering the operating setpoint and ultimately reducing standby energy.
In addition, Schussboom was looking for a boiler that fit their brewery footprint. The CBT steam boiler came on a pre-manufactured skid and fit perfectly.
The R.F. MacDonald Co. Analysis & Solution
The Cleaver-Brooks CBT-M-700-15ST is the first boiler to be installed in the brewery, which has operated reliably with quarterly maintenance visits.
Since installation and startup, the CBT boiler has run without interruption. “We want to focus on brewing, not the boiler, and R.F. MacDonald’s maintenance plan allows us to do just that,” Wagner said.
Key features of the CBT steam boiler include a tubeless pressure vessel design, a feed system, blow down separator, small footprint, fast load response and reliable operation. Pre-piped and ready-to-connect skids are also cost-effective and offer quick installation.
During a routine maintenance visit, Schussboom offered RFMCO the opportunity to collaborate on a new brew. RFMCO’s Sales & Service team spent the day adding hops to the new brew, giving it our personal touch for the special release.
